Originally from Long Island, New York, John is a naturalist and birding guide now based in North Carolina. He developed his passion for birds through years of exploring diverse habitats across the United States and around the world.
John earned his B.S. in Environmental Science from Catawba College, where he further developed his knowledge of ecology and conservation. His academic background has strengthened his understanding of the connections among birds, their habitats, and the ecosystems they depend on.
An avid birder, John has pursued birds throughout the eastern and western United States, as well as internationally in South America, Central America, Australia, Fiji, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. These experiences have expanded his appreciation for global avian diversity and the importance of conserving species and habitats worldwide.
John creates engaging, educational experiences for birders of all skill levels. Beyond simple identification, his guiding focuses on understanding avian behavior, habitat dynamics, and ecological roles. Whether leading a search for regional rarities or teaching fundamental field skills, John inspires curiosity and fosters a genuine connection to the natural world.
